ok, 24,500 patents. And - I know it's old-fashioned - how many employees?
- drivingmenuts 15y agoSad to say, I don't think employees count anymore. It's all about locking up the patents. OTOH, X number of people now work for Google without having to take those quizzes.
- elliottcarlson 15y agoFrom what I have read in previous HN threads - merged in employees still have to interview for placement purposes - could be off on that one though, but I em pretty sure I have read this more than once. Could also be a different story if the nature is more of a talent acquisition, but that is clearly not the case here.
- rbanffy 15y agoMotorola Mobility has lots of very smart people who know Android as well as, if not better, than its creators.
- toyg 15y agoWikipedia says 19,000. I believe most of them will be safe, probably even in Sales, considering how the two companies hardly overlap at all. (unless Larry is really thinking to grab the patents and then chuck everything else to some Taiwanese company)
- dotcoma 15y agobut my point is: you have a 25,000 people company that wants to simplify its operations, and what do they do? They buy a 19,000 people company.
- toyg 15y agoWell, except for android, they can probably keep Motorola separate (as they said), wait for patent wars to stop/calm down, and then resell it. No real integration effort would be required.
