FTC has to do a LOT of modernization. We have Truth in Lending, the BAR association, Consumer Reports*, but we've lost Journalistic rigor, Logic, and Critical Thinking.
There's a LOT of Qualification 'shorthand' that's been lost in the race to the bottom for the democratization of data distribution. Carrying a Professional Engineer cert in Civil Engineering is a VASTLY different qualification than carrying a CISSP cert.
While this seems to have wandered from fake reviews, its part and parcel to the loss of integrity, where internet communications come into play.
- sokoloff 5y agoI’m not sure that the trade commission should be chartered with (nor made powerful enough to be) fixing the broader evolution of how humans consider and manage trust, but I do think they should be concerned with truthfulness matters specifically around trade.

Take off your rose colored glasses and read your history more critically and you will realize that we never had it to begin with. Oh there were a few good journalists, some who knew logic, and sometimes people used critical thinking. However people are the same as people over all time. If anything we are slightly - just slightly better. We just remember the good parts of the olden days and forget the bad.
