Even beyond attending school during Covid-19, which by itself has been disruptive and challenging, I've heard from a number of friends who emigrated from Japan that the Japanese school experience can be pretty dismal. I also think some people are too quick to disregard the degree to which young people pick up on the quality of life and lifestyle of their parents and adults. The salaryman/woman lifestyle, the extremely long working hours, and the culture of extreme deference to work hierarchies, can be soul destroying, even for your children.
