- arrakis2021 5y agoNot sure why any CEO would want a public social media account. I know a G2000 CEO who keeps a private personal Instagram and that’s it. The current climate has social media positioned as a permanent system of record for your career. Something you said that was OK in 2010 might get you fired tomorrow. It’s just not worth it. This makes it very unappealing to CEOs who don’t need to risk saying the wrong thing, or show a lack of support for the boogeyman of the week Twitter issue. The need to “build their personal brand” is greatly outweighed by the risk of being assaulted by a Twitter mob.
- davidmichaelct 5y agoIt's a good point, and probably explains why only 3.8% of F500 CEOs are on Instagram (just 19 from 500!) - it's quite a personal platform. However, the flip side is that CEOs are very powerful brands in their own right, and can drive trust and influence for their entire company. For example, it's now impossible to separate Tesla from Elon Musk's personal brand. But yeah, the upside is huge but I can also see why so many CEOs avoid it altogether.
