Gaming companies are leading the way on curbing hate speech
- brodouevencode 5y agoThis was an empty, shallow attempt at shaming social media sites to use the same tactics that gaming platforms use. Anyone that has used either knows the paradigms between the two are so vast and stark it's like comparing apples and oranges. Just noise in my opinion.
- chuckee 5y agoRemember when players would host their own servers, and decide on their own what is allowed? I suppose we're to think centralizing this control in the hands of some multinational corporation is an improvement. It's certainly not being criticized by the likewise owned-by-giant-corporations gaming media: Fastcompany is owned by Joe Mansueto, who also owns/runs Morningstar, a "financial services firm" with a revenue of $1.4 billion - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Mansueto https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Mansueto Kotaku is owned by G/O Media, that "runs Gizmodo, Kotaku, Jalopnik, Deadspin, Lifehacker, Jezebel, The Root, The A.V. Club, The Takeout, The Onion, and The Inventory." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G/O_Media https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G/O_Media Polygon is owned by Vox Media, which is itself partly owned by Comcast - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vox_Media https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vox_Media IGN is owned by J2 Global, with a revenue of $1.4 billion and too many subsidiaries to list - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J2_Global https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J2_Global
