Is there any actual precedent for the scheme they present here (basically preventively give these antibodies to people who can’t mount their own response every 6 months)? Do we already do this with other diseases?
- KZerda 5y agoWe do it with cancer already. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/cancer/in-depth/monoclonal-antibody/art-20047808 https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/cancer/in-dep...
- inter_netuser 5y agoThat is indeed a fairly routine treatment for people with primary immunodeficiency. One of the ways they are diagnosed is inability to develop antibodies after a vaccine challenge. Those people receive an infusion of human antibodies purified from donated blood (human immunoglobulins) every few weeks. It's been in use for several decades.
