millions of people making hundreds of dollars - you know, like the music industry
- winternett 5y agoI'm not even sure that most are making hundreds... I know a lot of musicians, and they can't even afford to rent the usual props for music videos any more... :/
- missedthecue 5y agoIncome equals expenditure; they are one and the same. People are paying less and less for music now. A Spotify or Apple Music subscription gives you access to 75 million songs for $10 a month. That would cost me $100,000,000 in CDs or cassette tapes.
- gizmo686 5y agoBut you never would have spent $100,000,000 on music. According to this [0] random blog, a cassete album cost about $8 in 1980, which translates to about $25 in today's dollars. You would need to buy a new album every 2 or 3 months to spend more than maintaining a streaming service. I'm sure that a lot of people did do so. However, I suspect that most people were like me (who grew up in the days of CDs) and just had a few that we owned and would reuse. - missedthecue 5y agoThere are only ten songs on a CD. I don't listen to 75 million songs, but I probably listen to around 1000 different tracks per month.
- gizmo686 5y agoBut would you listen to 1000 different tracks per month if they cost $2.50 per track?
- missedthecue 5y agoNo, so I'd say that streaming has improved my quality of life.
