Covid-19 influences life expectancy
- timonoko 5y agoIn some countries Covid-19 has raised life expectancy. When the terminal patient is diagnosed with this recognizable disease, doctors keep him alive little bit longer in the respirator, just to clear the legal responsibilities. Source: casual remarks by somekind of medical professional in Youtube.
- netizen-936824 5y agoAh yes, random people claiming they have credentials in YouTube videos. The most rigorous of sources
- timonoko 5y agoShudup :-). I know the guy. I just don't want to point him out for casual semi-humorous comment. Anyways it is a known fact that average age of a Covid terminal patient is higher than average life-span.
- dTal 5y agoEven if we were to take everything you have said at face value - which I don't - none of it supports the frankly absurd statement "In some countries Covid-19 has raised life expectancy". Also, you cannot expect us to simultaneously take it seriously and not take it seriously, so cut it out with the "casual semi-humorous" stuff. Either it is true or it is not. This is a topic where spreading wrong information can cause a great deal of harm, so please be more careful about the things you assert.
- throwawaysea 5y ago> Period life expectancy reflects the risk of death a population faced within a year. If the risk of dying in a year increases, such as from a heat wave or from COVID-19 infection, life expectancy decreases; if the risk of dying decreases, life expectancy increases. If I am interpreting this correctly, the study is not claiming that being infected with COVID-19 reduces life expectancy, but rather that the observed life expectancy has gone down by some amount due to fatalities attributable to COVID-19.
- csense 5y agoDoesn't any event in which people die reduce life expectancy? How is this not a simple tautology?
- 542354234235 5y agoCorrect. It is more of a demonstration of the scale of the pandemic, that it has taken years off the collective population’s life expectance, in the same way that infant mortality does in developing countries and the US.
- fithisux 5y agoIs it due to pandemic, or to measures?
- sjg007 5y agoIf you read the article and think deeply about it you could actually answer this question for yourself.
