In my case, I’m working on a legacy product that started life in the 80’s. Aside from bug fixes, my work is almost completely funded by our customers requesting new features. I would look for a company who has a mature product that needs ongoing maintenance and the occasional new feature here or there. Oh, and as far away from the major tech hubs as possible :)
