When he puts his mind to it he can be quite a convincing person, because he can bring genuine passion to the subject. The most famous example was to find the greatest Briton which was done at the beginning of the century. Hundreds were nominated and then reduced to the top 10, each one would have a person present a documentary outlining why they should voted the greatest Briton, Clarkson was first up with Isambard Kingdom Brunel, a great engineer but no ones favorite to win it. His documentary was passionate, informative and entertaining, It was so good that Brunel actually ended being voted second in the entire list. The other candidate such as Newton, Shakespeare, Darwin werent presented nearly as well to the public as Clarkson did with Brunel.

- djmips 5y agoPoint taken but somewhat dubious top 10 IMO. Looks more like a popularity contest result. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100_Greatest_Britons#Top_10 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100_Greatest_Britons#Top_10
- drumhead 5y agoIt was, Diana finishing third was ridiculous, but it doesnt detract from Clarkson being the most convincing with the poorest material.
