Show HN:Sharehold – The First Account Recovery App
- Nadya 5y agoQ: How is this better than a password manager? I'm not seeing the value sell over storing my backup keys in my password manager.
- geck098 5y agoGreat question - your password manager is another account-based service, most of which also provide backup recovery codes in case of lockout. Sharehold does not require an email or password, instead it uses social recovery as your recovery mechanism meaning you break the cycle of using one account to recover another and instead use your personal recovery team.
- Nadya 5y agoGotcha, the site didn't do a great job explaining it but the AppStore did. The website doesn't mention the concept of a Recovery Team at all, or at least I couldn't find it under the "How It Works" section or the home page. The idea is you add another one of your devices and/or trusted individuals that you can contact to recover an account. My advice would be to update the website material to convey the same information as the AppStore description as the AppStore description does a much better job of explaining the selling point of how it works and why you would use it. I'm completely outside of the target audience for this (as I trust absolutely nobody but myself and lack a 2nd device for recovery) but I can recognize that there is a target audience. Best of luck!
