I live in Barcelona, where public transportation is quite good and it doesn't take me more than 20 minute to get to the office. Still, I prefer to work remotely. Commuting in certain places makes working remotely a necessity but this is not the only reason for not having to go to the office. There is a lot of friction about this, mostly I suspect is because higher management became such before working remotely was an option.
