  I think it would be more accurate to say he prefers to be able to choose the extent to which the two are commingled - I largely consume my twitter feed for content, keep up with my relationships via assorted more private methods, and haven't had a facebook account in years because its forced commingling made it largely useless to me for either purpose. Other people may, of course, have different preferences, but I do understand his irritation.
