Seed Funding for Remix
- dimitrisnl 5y agoWell done, great to see some Next.js competition.
- Egidius 5y agoLooking forward fiddling with this! Great move to open source this. 250 dollar was a fair price, but this way more people can enjoy Remix and thus the web will advance.
- mwcampbell 5y agoI'm actually disappointed in this. These two were fighting the unsustainable expectation that all libraries or frameworks must be free. As long as we have that expectation, only developers who win the VC funding jackpot, as these two did, can be fairly compensated for doing substantial full-time work on libraries or frameworks. And what's the business model now, anyway? Those VCs are going to expect a return on their investment. Giving away the software and trying to sell something else can lead to some perverse incentives. There's no shame in demanding compensation for the software itself; I wish the Remix developers had kept up that fight. And yes, I bought a Remix license (an indie one). I'm not even using it, at least not yet, but it seemed worth supporting.
- swyx 5y agoCongrats team! For those not close to the React ecosystem, here are the main things to catch up on with Remix: - Kent's website breakdown: https://kentcdodds.com/blog/how-i-built-a-modern-website-in-2021 https://kentcdodds.com/blog/how-i-built-a-modern-website-in-... - Beta launch video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dOAFJUOi-s&t=1s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dOAFJUOi-s&t=1s -
- hazza1 5y agoLooking forward to trying this now, Java is too engrained in the enterprise backend for me to use at work.
