Funny, I have a similar tuner that is permanently attached to both poly and (significantly more fragile) nitro guitars, and never saw anything of the sort happen. Also I thought poly was virtually indestructible, those guitars never age... If you want something permanent, I can recommend a D'addario. They can attach to the tuner screw and won't be in conctact with the wood.
