- austincheney 5y agoEverything the article mentions previously applied to Reddit on a smaller scale. There are historical precedents here so any risk (real or perceived) can be examined without guessing.
- dehrmann 5y agoI have no idea how reddit's demographics skew, these days. Tiktok is the teen social network, but reddit's been around for so long it probably has a broader userbase. Except for app users.
- beamatronic 5y agoI don't think TikTok is the story here. We are in an age where a powerful digital force can arise and dominate people's time and attention, in a short number of years. And our existing government, legal, and regulatory structures are not adapted to this reality.
- jpster 5y agoI disagree. To me TikTok is the story because it illustrates exactly what you point out: gov, legal, regulatory structures lagging behind. If social media is a big risk to Americans, then it seems unacceptable that TT goes unexamined. It has been around for three or four years already. How they respond (or not) to TT can be a sign of whether politicians are serious or just grandstanding over the usual suspects.
