It's probably all the anti-natalist propaganda. Well, at the end of the day anti-natalism is a problem that solves itself, populations that are inmune to those memes will thrive, and others will disappear.
- Valgrim 5y agoCould you point to some examples of anti-natalist propaganda? I have absolutely no idea what it looks like. Maybe I've been living under an algorithmic rock since I do have children and my phone knows it?
- Ambolia 5y agoJust google something like "having children" and skim the results. For me I get, from the first articles appearing: - "Mothers who regret having children are speaking up" - "The Two Reasons Parents Regret Having Kids" - "Many people we spoke to about the childfree life said they were happy with pets instead." - "Why having kids doesn’t necessarily make you happier, according to research"
- Tanjreeve 5y agoNone of those sound like "don't have kids" they're various flavours of "Children are not a self contained solution for everlasting happiness" which seems reasonable enough to me.
- toomuchtodo 5y agoOne person's research and awareness is another person's propaganda.
- Valgrim 5y agoInteresting. My results are much more balanced and analytical... -This is what I tell friends who are torn about having children -Things to Consider before Having a Baby -One Legacy of the Pandemic May Be Less Judgment of the Child-Free
- senortumnus 5y agoYes and relatively quickly too
- travisporter 5y agoNot sure id you’re being tongue in cheek. Anti-natalism (which I just looked up on Wikipedia) seems to have a very long history. All nations and people (with a few cultural exceptions where childbearing is vital to identity) start having fewer kids as wealth and education improves.
- prepend 5y agoI read a book description [0] recently about “anti-memetics” or anti-memes, ideas that don’t want to spread. Stuff like taboo secrets. Anti-natalism seems anti-memetic because the adherents don’t reproduce enough to carry on these serious philosophies to their belief. It makes me think about how these ideas end up spreading anyway. So it could be so good that it convinces people. Or there could be false adherents. There’s some religions that don’t allow sex (eg, Shakers [1]) and it’s curious to me that they still exist since they only grow through converts with each member dying off and rarely reproducing.
