I think providing non-trivial information that can help people make decisions is important and something that CS people can do. I'm thinking of maybe open data from/about governments that would allow for greater civic engagement. I live in the U.S. so it's still not as dire as other places, but still it's something. I'm glad that someone is thinking about this instead of a new way to sell ads.
