Boy some days I miss making a webpage with a simple index.html and five pages...
- Raed667 5y agoThat still works! No one is stopping you from opening a text editor and writing an index.html document then drag-and-drop through an FTP client to a production server. However, good-luck building something as complex as kentcdodds.com using that.
- biofox 5y agoThere are some images, text, some fancy JS menus, and some small animations. With the exception of the embedded videos, there's nothing here that can't be done with some static pages.
- coffeefirst 5y agoTrue, but there's also nothing here you couldn't do with a pretty standard Django or Rails setup.
- nine_k 5y ago...except maybe speed. But this is more about Python and Ruby lacking a standard and efficient JIT, unlike JS, and not so much about architecture.
- cratermoon 5y agoWhat's complex about a blogging/marketing/workshop site? Or did you forget a /s? I don't see any content here that couldn't be done with any of half a dozen site hosting platforms, maybe require a couple of plugins. Wix, Squarespace, Weebly, even good ol' Automattic/Wordpress could do this. Perhaps clunkier, less performant, less customized, but functionally sufficient.
- tasogare 5y agoThis so much. How I do "modern website": one HTML file, linking a typescript lib (if required). Optionally said page is generated by ASP.net Core. Database if required. So, ranging from 1 to 4 tech (not counting CSS), only one being compiled.
- na85 5y agoYou can still do that today. I did! https://0x85.org/orgsite.html https://0x85.org/orgsite.html
