California mandates gender-neutral toy aisles for large retailers
- tomohawk 5y agoYes, let's continue to regulate bricks and morter retailers, but not Amazon, likely the biggest seller of toys.
- smt88 5y agoIt only applies to California-based retailers and is specifically related to grouping some (but not all[1]) toys in gendered aisles. The explanation from the lawmakers is that it specifically applies to children's perceptions of toys, not parents. Amazon doesn't have aisles, and small children don't buy their toys from it, so applying this law to them would seem to belie the stated goal (avoiding seeding children's minds with the gender biases of adults). 1. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2021-10-09/california-will-require-large-retailers-to-provide-gender-neutral-toy-sections https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2021-10-09/californ...
- greenail 5y agoI don't think you are allowed to criticize this. That makes me wonder how anyone can comment who doesn't agree with the ideology behind the mandate.
- smt88 5y agoWho is disallowing you from criticizing this and in what media? It was publicly opposed by the Republican party and their criticism is easily accessible and mentioned in mainstream media.
- greenail 5y agoI would guess that any criticism would be called out as transphobic. That isn't something most people would be ok with being labeled. Even more difficult is the fact that I have no clue how to prove that I am not transphobic. What proofs exist that are compelling beyond my own claims? What if no one is brave enough to defend me? This difficulty (proving one's innocence in a public forum) is scary.
