Recently I acquired a used Intel Broadwell system. It's got 128MB L4 cache, which was one of it's product differentiators at the time. Since then, Intel has left out L4 cache from it's CPU designs, citing lack of overall performance benefit. Obviously there must have been some benefit in order for L4 cache to have been included in the first place. I'd like to learn more about how other software projects leveraged that L4 cache specifically, if at all.
