SpaceX tourist says she was sick first two days of mission
- tinus_hn 5y agoThis just in: cruise passengers report being sea sick. News at eleven!
- robomartin 5y agoThis story says everything about the state of media today: If there's no blood, find the next best thing. Anything for a click. It's disgusting. Particularly when you realize it is this way for nearly everything. Which means you almost never learn the truth about anything being reported without doing your own digging. Never mind that this was a historic event where each of the four people on that flight represented something good about humanity. No, they have to talk about someone getting sick and a toilet fan issue. And, never mind that they raised over $200 million dollars for St. Jude Children's hospital. No, what matters is a toilet! Who are these people? <rant mode off> If you want to learn more about this historic event, I highly recommend the five episode series about it on Netflix. It is excellent. Here's the mission website: https://inspiration4.com/ https://inspiration4.com/ I thought is was remarkable that they did not make this about SpaceX. Elon Musk barely shows-up in the documentary. It is all about the people, their stories and the mission. I am also particularly proud of this moment because we worked for SpaceX on a related contract for a couple of years (can't discuss details).
- leobg 5y agoWholeheartedly agree. Journalism is pretty much dead. In an age where you can research most things for yourself, it seems you also have to.
- rsj_hn 5y agoI think it's because anyone can research for themselves today that there is very little scarcity value to the majority of what journalism does. Therefore journalism has morphed into media, trying to attract eyeballs with opinion pieces and outrage. Yes, I know that deep investigative work is not something people can do as well as dedicated journalists with large budgets. But that's such a tiny minority of what journalism was before the internet, and it was being subsidized by the rest. It's an unfortunate victim of the business model collapse.
- leobg 5y agoThat is one of the most astute explanations of the phenomenon that I have heard so far.
