I mean it's none of my business what he makes but he did bring it up and I am curious to know how much a prominent individual like him earns for working on his own open source passion project. I find it commendable that someone would work on their own project for such a low salary owing to a belief and desire to get their product out there. That said if he makes $15000 a month that's cool too and great for him, but it's not clear to me what the truth here is.

- hutrdvnj 5y agoHe lives from donations to Zig, so that he can work full time in it.
- Rebelgecko 5y agoThe Zig foundation is super transparent about where their money goes, modulo a few months of delay. Technically he's drawing a salary of something like 12k/month but he donates most of it back to the foundation (initially 100% of it was being donated back, but he's scaled back gradually so it's more like 80% last I checked). I don't know if he has any other income but it seems like Zig is really a labor of love.
