I have for years held the opinion that the moment Facebook and Twitter shifted to “algorithmic timelines” they “changed the deal” and not only did they change the deal they had with respect to public trust, they also became on average significantly less useful to me, I have to fastidiously check a list of people I want to keep up with now instead of just following them in the knowledge that my timeline will simply contain them. It’s like a social media slot machine, then in Facebook’s case they went and rigged the game in favour of advertising by allowing people to pay to be pushed to more of the people that already followed them talk about rubbing salt into a wound. It’s not appropriate and dramatic changes to section 230 are long overdue in light of the way these platforms now operate.
