"Take the pledge to log off Facebook. (Don’t worry you don’t have to log out of your account right now.) Just by taking the pledge, you can get Facebook’s attention and show them that we will refuse to engage with their platform until they fix it."
Lol. I don't think Facebook cares about the protests of people who need to be reassured that they're not really protesting.
- Micrococonut 5y agoLiterally. What a silly website. If they actually wanted to affect anything they should be encouraging people to delete their accounts.
- malft 5y agoIsn't that how fundraising works? You make people commit to "supporting your cause" with a trivial pledge, so that when you ask for actual money they can't back out without losing face. "I will maybe log off at some point" sounds like maybe too weak a pledge to me, but I'm sure they've focus grouped the shit out this.
- JohnClark1337 5y ago"Take the pledge to stop drinking (don't worry, you don't have to stop drinking now)' I went cold-turkey with facebook and twitter a few years back for my own mental health and never looked back. Facebook did nothing but convince me that everyone else's life was more amazing than mine, and twitter did nothing but show me tons of posts about how horrible life was. They both had addictive qualities though and I also noticed when I interacted on them that it brought out the worst in me. I felt much better about everything when I left both of them.
- thevinter 5y ago"Take the pledge and mark your calendars for November 10, 2021, when we’ll take action to log off together." The website is silly indeed but the plan is to logout on november 10th. They'll probably send an email or something.
- NotAnOtter 5y agoOh yeah, also gives us your full name, email, phone number, and zip code. Yeah if I'm the type of person who is tired of Facebooks misuse of private information, I'm not going to demonstrate that by giving away private information.
