It makes sense; before formal language humans still had to intuit “how much” food, water, sleep, would maintain life.
I sometimes wonder if romantic era language forced on the species by warlords is actually responsible for a lot of our cognitive dissonance and Duning-Kruger like traits.
After all, dimension, distance, weight, shape, color gradient, etc, are all right in front of us.
Ownership, theory, value stores, etc. all conceptual. Ideas defined by the dead and put upon the next generation to babysit or else!
We try to make concept concrete and ignore what’s happening literally.
