There is an unequal human sex ratio of males to females at birth

- ggm 5y agoReading the article, it has two points (as I understand it): there is a reason to believe in a slight male/female bias at birth which may be physiological, but there's also a cultural bias: girl foetus get aborted more often in some societies, which is frankly terrible, and has terrible consequences for those cultures. Bride hijacking, bizarre economic and violent outcomes.
- mbg721 5y agoThe first time I read this, I parsed it as an argument that "Sex-selection in abortions is terrible (but abortions in general are fine)". It's frightening that that didn't surprise me.
- ggm 5y agoThe first reading is exactly what I meant. Sex selection abortions are terrible. Women's reproductive autonomy and health, needs access to abortion on-demand, abortion is a least-worst choice for many women and should remain their choice and not subject to the Religious and legal constraints we see in Texas or Poland. Abortion for sex selection is really bad.
- cafard 5y agoRight. As a sibling comment says, sex-selective abortion skews this further. That apart, though, males tend to die off more quickly, and soon there are slightly more females.
