Maybe Deno could end up enabling this. I heard/remember seeing that there is some initial work to support building UIs using Deno which presumably would have a lot of overlap with a traditional browser rendering engine. One of the explicit goals of these projects is to have a truly cross-platform alternative to Electron, from what I vaguely remember reading.
