- brundolf 5y agoThis still has to be embedded inside a native Windows app though, right? I'm betting that one day desktop OSes will agree on a standard for shipping a raw web app directly (manifest format, etc), that can be spun up and run in the local webview without all the ceremony of a wrapper app
- arthurcolle 5y agoMaybe Deno could end up enabling this. I heard/remember seeing that there is some initial work to support building UIs using Deno which presumably would have a lot of overlap with a traditional browser rendering engine. One of the explicit goals of these projects is to have a truly cross-platform alternative to Electron, from what I vaguely remember reading.
- underwater 5y agoThat's a PWA (Progressive Web App). It exists but support is spotty on most platforms and non-existent on iOS.
- brundolf 5y agoI know about PWAs; those don't have all the capabilities of an Electron app (being distributable as a file/archive, file system access, and many other things)
