GitHub Removes GTA Fan Projects Re3 and ReVC Following New Take-Two DMCA Notice
- m-p-3 5y ago> maliciously copying, adapting and distributing its source code and other content Seems like a bold claim to make, claiming that the code has been copied. If it was reverse-engineered, then the code should be legally redistributable as long as it doesn't contain amy copyrighted assets, right?
- dt2m 5y agothe problem here is that it wasn't reverse-engineered, in the cleanroom sense of the term. there were multiple references in the codebase to "not simply copy and paste the code from the IDA decompiler", so the legality gets a bit more dubious. as for why take2 wants to waste their time on this 15+ year old game, i have absolutely no idea. i highly doubt they can sell it any more to their target demographic of retro gamers, who've likely already bought it for ps2, steam and mobile...
- mahmoudhossam 5y agoI heard they're working on a remaster, so that might be a good motive.
- blibble 5y agono doubt vastly inferior to the community version like all their others
- not_really 5y agoGet ready for a new selection of mask designs and woke soundbytes for NPCs
- revolvingocelot 5y ago>woke soundbytes for NPCs That's too much effort. Why would they put more into the game? Think more along the lines of "radically curtailed music catalogue"
- jeffybefffy519 5y agoId bet they are about to release it on other platforms. Its what they do.
- po1nt 5y agoI still don't understand why publishers hold onto such old titles. It's not like the contributors want to get rich from the source code.
- Stevvo 5y agoThe contributors don't get rich from mods, but others do. Take NoPixel as an example; millions in profit made through 'donations'. Remasters of the three PS2 era games will be out before Christmas. Take Two will want people to be spending money in those games, not in modded versions which are increasingly monetized by mod developers outside of Take Two's control.
