Facebook Can't Be Saved
- NotAnOtter 5y agoVice? They could find a hot take in the Arctic. And it would be some polar bear poo.
- eigengrau5150 5y agoFacebook can be saved in the same way the US military used to save towns in Vietnam. > "'It became necessary to destroy the town to save it,' a United States major said today. He was talking about the decision by allied commanders to bomb and shell the town regardless of civilian casualties, to rout the Vietcong." —Peter Arnett
- beamatronic 5y agoIt could be saved with different leadership at the top. It could start by switching to a paid model where you pay Facebook, say, $100 per year. They would have to then pivot into a customer-service, privacy-first mindset.
- savanaly 5y agoWhat about when a big competitor that's free but has ads springs up and everyone jumps ship to that? Will we then "save" that company in turn by magicking your proposed policy into place for them, and then so on when another company displaces them? It's like trying to ban free trade...a black market will always spring up...you can't stop humans from engaging in what they perceive to be mutually beneficial trade (in this case a great product for free in exchange for their attention/info) except with very draconian policies.
