I turned in a similar algorithm for a college homework assignment, as a practical joke. (I'd been programming for 10 years already before I was able to go to college, so I was extremely bored in my first year Computer Science classes.) I'm pretty sure I used the double-loop technique to drive it, but mine wasn't quite as simple because I layered the joke by also using multiple XOR, instead of swap, to propagate the values through the array.
