In Case I Don’t Write Here Again
- tannhaeuser 5y agoQuite some long-standing blogs get the blues and decry a glorious past when many more people would visit. Whereas today they've supposedly being taken care of by new mass media and "influencers". I don't have figures, but is the number of visitors, for tech blogs without ads, all that important a metric? Or isn't a reduced number of visitors a reflection of the fact that blogs are back as a medium for the right people, those who can relate with the content and start meaningful discussions about it, which were always a small number to begin with after all? If that's the case, we should really fallback to RSS and web rings/directories, making it not too simple to discover. Unless we want unwashed masses to take down our servers in expectation of easily digestible information merely presented to them in faux blog genre form.
- tobr 5y agoPerhaps you are talking in general terms, but I don’t see anything in the post to suggest Brent Simmons is disappointed in the number of visitors. On the contrary, he writes that he hopes to eventually have no online presence at all.
- rcarmo 5y agoBrent is one of the original Mac bloggers who a) always posted relevant info and b) never really cared about the audience size, so I'm not sure I follow the point of this diatribe.
