And yes, the societal stability and wealth inequality have a lot to do with this discussion. The government insists on spending social capital that it doesn't have; against a population that does not trust it. Just like deficit spending catches up with you, spending social trust capital catches up with you too. Except it's much faster and a lot more destabilizing.
