Russia test fires submarine-launched hypersonic Tsirkon missile for first time
- PaulHoule 5y agoThe first hypersonic glide weapon to be fielded was https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pershing_II https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pershing_II If you look closely you can see it has very tiny fins that can maneuver it at 25g on reentry. P2 was an IBRM with limited range; contrast that to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maneuverable_reentry_vehicle#Advanced_Maneuverable_Reentry_Vehicle https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maneuverable_reentry_vehicle#A... which was fired from an ICBM maneuvered at 80g and faced much tougher materials and technological problems. IRBMs and SLBMs will get the P2 treatment in the near future because it is a simple and low-tech upgrade to missiles that improves range, accuracy and anti-anti-missile missile missile capability.
