No, we can’t. Facebook itself is the problem.
- ssss11 5y agoI agree ^ however I would say the very early days of fb that was basically a chronological update of friends statuses is all I ever wanted, and I can’t see many problems with them operating that. The issue of course is they couldn’t make huge revenues providing that.. they need all the ads, news, attention grabbing crap… and fb will never make that change. Would you even trust them if they did? I honestly think the answer is some transparent service that provides what I describe in the first paragraph.. may be a not for profit or open source solution.
- beardyw 5y agoCouldn't agree more. Here's one person's story. I joined in 2008 and it seemed a benign and cosy place to be. I didn't use it a lot, but I felt good about it. After a few years it started to feel a bit less comfortable. To be fair that was due to posts that people started making. Quite soon all I saw was email notifications of people wishing me a happy birthday. I logged on at the start of the year, and what a different place it was. I had decided to cancel the account I wasn't using and I was left in no doubt that it was a right decision. Friends posted that they would miss me. I had posted nothing for a decade. So recreate 2008, and I might, just possibly, come back.
