Platform and orchestration are vague terms.
What do you mean by orchestration? A container scheduler? Sure, a platform is more than that.
What do you mean by a platform? Do you mean you want it to handle scheduling, load balancing, service discovery, authentication/authorization, secret/config management, batch execution, resource management, extensible APIs, and deployment management? With a standard set of interfaces to manage the entire lifecycle of the application from development to production?
Then K8s is a platform.
Incidentally, ECS has almost none of those things (you have to use other AWS services which ECS may or may not have an extension for), and some of the other components (FaaS etc) are not PaaS. Unless you consider any "XaaS" a platform (which technically they are, using the historical definition of platform).
- debarshri 5y agoThanks for your arguments. I will list them too. Technically, dokku, kubernetes, swarm kind fall into the same category.
