Thats a pretty loose definition of autopilot; >noun: automatic pilot; plural noun: automatic pilots a device for keeping an aircraft on a set course without the intervention of the pilot. Cruise control only maintains velocity, lane assist still requires interventions when turns need to be made or lines are unclear. That sounds like intervention to me "without the intervention of the pilot" is a pretty pivotal part of everyone else's understanding of the word.
