What about Google insisting you sign in on their own browser with 80%+ market share?
- tim333 5y agoYou can at least uninstall that and use a different one.
- DaiPlusPlus 5y agoGoogle has never, ever, required that I use Chrome to access any of their sites and services.
- DaltonCoffee 5y agoGoogle Earth Studio is Chrome only
- tomjen3 5y agoI can't use Google meet with Firefox.
- anothernewdude 5y agoI can
- skeeter2020 5y agouhm, many of their services work poorly or not at all with Firefox; how is that not "requiring chrome?"
- hobos_delight 5y agoI've happily used Firefox on Windows and Linux to access all of my Google services, without issue, for years. Can you expand on which services don't work with ff? At Google there is a requirement to use Chrome - due to certain browser extensions - but that doesn't impact any of the services they provide.
- Rebelgecko 5y agoThere isn't a requirement to use Chrome at Google Source: work at Google and used Firefox until the latest UI refresh
- hobos_delight 5y agoThere was when I was there. How does BeyondCorp work with ff?
- Rebelgecko 5y agoYou can manually configure the browser to point it at the BeyondCorp proxy
- whycombagator 5y agoSheets and gmail were painful for me with FF. Moved to Brave, sadly
- NikolaeVarius 5y agoI use Gmail and Sheets just fine with Firefox. I haven't had any issues with it outside of the slowness of the app that I already notice in Chrome
- hammyhavoc 5y agoEver tried to use Gmail offline? I could go on.
- josephcsible 5y agoI can still use Firefox to sign in to my Google account.
- vbezhenar 5y agoHow does it insist? Chrome works without signing in just fine. You'll lose Google synchronization obviously, but that's about it.
- systemvoltage 5y agoI just see excuses to Google's dominance in the web browser space in all the responses. There are many threads on HN that discusses this in greater detail: https://hn.algolia.com/?q=chrome https://hn.algolia.com/?q=chrome
