It's political/cultural tribalism and being anti-white is the dominant establishment position in US elite circles (tech, media, some areas of explicit politics etc). It is a position that suffers no backlash or threats of job loss or cancelling in contrast to anything similar for other identity groups. Similar, industry conferences and hiring practices etc can even explicitly single out and promote favoring other identity groups ("women/minorities who code", explicit racial hiring quotas etc) but could never in a million years pursue similar efforts for white men.
