Why product research is broken and how we can fix it
- rahimnathwani 5y agoSearching the site for 'microphone' returned 2 results, both of which were Sennheiser 6XX headphones.
- justin_oaks 5y agoSo you're saying that they should instead focus on "Why our search is broken and how we can fix it"? Jokes aside, the search indicates there are only 300 products. You could probably scroll through those. Besides, most sites' have exceptionally poor search capabilities, Hacker News included.
- hubraumhugo 5y agoGood catch, I'll fix that soon. Thanks for reporting!
- Vinnl 5y agoThey asked redditors where they do product research, and the most popular place was Reddit?
- hubraumhugo 5y agoThe survey was shared on Reddit, among other places :)
- zaplin 5y agoChecking a product on your site I expected to find some kind of a point system. I guess you filter for -good products only- but still if I'm shopping in a category, I want to compare. Maybe some kind of proprietary way to compare?
- hubraumhugo 5y agoA compare function is definitely on my list. The site will get a complete redesign soon and will look more like https://baqpa.com https://baqpa.com
- agent327 5y agoOne of their remedies is to periodically ask for an update to any review posted. Am I the only one who no longer has any desire to act as an unpaid reviewer for every little thing I buy? And who gets annoyed that I get _reminders_ for not having posted my oh-so-important review? Order pizza -> review the sales experience, the website, the delivery person, and of course the pizza itself. Book a hotel room -> review the room, the hotel, the facilities, the breakfast, the surroundings, the transportation, the weather, the staff, ... bloody hell just stop it already!
- benmanns 5y agoI would be a lot more willing if 1. I could do it without attaching my public real life identity and 2. I actually got something out of it. There’s no collaborative filtering or anything going on, just risk of a libel lawsuit.
- xyzzy21 5y agoWhen you outsource everything about the product (R&D, manufacturing, distribution, etc.) there's pretty much zero chance you are going to plan and design the product matched to ANY market or its needs. That's what the real problem is!
