Trump seeks reinstatement of Twitter account, court filing shows
- vadfa 5y agoIs there any precedent of courts mandating an internet company to reinstate a user account?
- shakna 5y agoIt's certainly something that has been requested before [0][1], though I cannot find a case of it occurring, it does appear to be a possibility. ("Any reason" in a ToS has legal limitations.) It seems to be something that is often requested through highly varying different laws (contract violations, business fraud, etc.), and not any particular avenue, so actual precedent probably won't apply across the board in anything. - Arnt 5y agoIt's happened in 2019 in Germany, to Facebook. https://www.sueddeutsche.de/muenchen/muenchen-urteil-facebook-meinungsfreiheit-1.4707910 https://www.sueddeutsche.de/muenchen/muenchen-urteil-faceboo...
- detaro 5y agoThere have been recent cases regarding Twitter bans too.
- shakna 5y agoI'm not sure that the actions of a German court are particular relevant to the US courts, however.
- Arnt 5y agoYou're not sure. But you can think about it and form an opinion. Try writing a few paragraphs under the headline "Some reasons why Facebook would accept instructions to reinstate users from courts in some countries, but not from courts in others" and see if the act of writing helps you either support or weaken the headline.
- spicyusername 5y agoHis Twitter account disappearing had such a drastically positive impact on my day-to-day well being. Not having to hear the news constantly discuss every.little.inane.thing he said... what a relief! His comments have no place being part of our public discourse, and every time the media commented on them it gave them weight they didn't deserve.
