I liked the way coalton built a statically typed lisp-1 in CL. Undoubtedly there are some issues I haven't thought through, and I'm too lazy to actually try to implement it, but I've always thought one should be able to make "CL1" (or some such) that's basically common lisp but with a single namespace for functions and variables.
