It depends. It depends on your local healthcare system, the vaccination rate, the previous natural immunity rate, the age of the population... Here in Ontario

Here in Ontario my unqualified napkin math suggests we might now be able to just fully re-open and get away with it. Over in Alberta where they have 2x as many unvaccinated people per capita, the ER departments and ICUs are in bad shape.
> The head of emergency medicine for the Alberta Medical Association says major components of triage have already begun in Alberta, even though the protocol hasn’t officially been implemented. Dr. Paul Parks said that in recent days some critically ill COVID-19 patients who should be on ventilators are not getting them. That’s on top of previously announced mass cancellations of surgeries, along with patient transfers, as doctors balance medical need with available space, he said. -- https://globalnews.ca/news/8218552/alberta-covid-19-icu-triage-protocol/ https://globalnews.ca/news/8218552/alberta-covid-19-icu-tria...
We've seen triage protocols implemented in various places around the world when it did in fact, spike badly enough. It can happen if you have a lot of unvaccinated old people who all get it suddenly.
- mrfusion 5y agoInteresting analysis. Does it bother you that we’ve had nearly two years to expand hospitals and healthcare and we haven’t? The only go-to solution is to take away our rights.
- retrac 5y agoA great deal has been spent on emergency expansion. Perhaps not enough. Though as I understand it the greatest barrier especially at this point is not physical ward space, or equipment, but personnel. How quickly can we train a nurse or medic?
- mrfusion 5y agoDo you have any sources on the expansions? Just curious. Have we made any efforts in the last two years to train more personal?
- jleyank 5y agoWhy not get people to give a shit about others and get vaxed. If enough people did that there’d be way less COVID in the news.
