I feel like I dodged a bullet. A lot of my peers (in STEM, not humanities) stayed on the academic treadmill because job prospects weren't as good when we graduated as they are now. But their experiences with advisors, course load, university attitude, etc mirror Brett's description. I finished undergrad feeling sick of school and would not have thrived in that environment.
