Even if the tech doesn't create the conspiracy theorists, it just allows them to "hatch" in a welcoming environment, it is still far from useless. Had those people not found like-minded company through Facebook, they wouldn't have manifested their inner conspiracy theorist, and in turn could have voted differently if the doubts within hadn't cracked the shell of common sense built around them.
- helen___keller 5y agoI agree but I wonder what the solution is. "finding like-minded company" is basically a high level description of what social media is at its core, hence why you find the same conspiracy mindset in so many locations and forms (sometimes ones you wouldn't expect, like /r/superstonk or twitter circles devoted to public transit / public policy on transit)
