In 2000, 80Gbps was the whole internet. Now a private link for one customer
- Arnt 5y agoBack in 1992, I wrote a Sinclair Spectrum emulator for the MS-DOS on a 386, and when it had proceeded far enough that I could test some games, I asked around on Usenet or a mailing list, I don't remember. Someone in South Africa had a collection, but FTPing dozens of 48k files from a South African university to a Norwegian university was too slow to be doable. Things timed out. Then one Monday night the FTP worked. That Monday was when South Africa deployed its new 64kbps connection between its universities and rest of the internet, a vast upgrade from the 9600bps link. And the first thing that happened was that a random longhair student saturated it with retro games, n×48k.
