I'd try to make an appointment at the "Genius Bar" and talking to someone about it. If it's a common issue, they might replace it for free if you're lucky.
They generally have a tiered repair pricing model and I think minor issues like the flex cable would cost around the cheaper price you've been quoted for and replacing the whole display would be the higher price.

- schleck8 5y agoI already sent it in - they only replace it for free with 13 inch models. There isn't any Apple Stores nearby. I think I'll take it to a repair shop
