I used XSB as a component for a project. As the page correctly states, the two main draws of this system are Hilog and good support for tabled execution. If you don't need those features I would pick another system. At the time of writing, the tooling, documentation, and support for XSB are not that great. Other systems like SWI or Scryer are probably better.
