- firecall 5y agoTotally. The ICE boat has sailed! People may love cars, but they generally hate owning cars because the industry is pretty horrible when it comes to servicing and repairs of ICE cars. I don't know anyone who doesnt want an electric car. Anyone who does want an ICE vehicle either has a special use case for range or is an enthusiast. But even then, they'd get an EV if they could as a daily driver.
- version_five 5y agoThis comment doesn't make any sense. I especially curious about this though, if anyone has any real information: > People may love cars, but they generally hate owning cars because the industry is pretty horrible when it comes to servicing and repairs of ICE cars. I dont have an electric car. My gut feeling is that electric cars are far more likely to have some kind of mandatory or almost mandatory SaaS component to them that finds a way to keep you paying more to the manufacturer and only getting service done at manufacturer affiliate locations. Am I wrong? With a "regular" car, I never have to interact with the dealer again once I buy it. I know they hate that, and want to find ways to turn me into an annuity, but for basic cars there is still a great ecosystem of independent garages that can work on it. All this is a long way of saying one reason I dont want an electric car is because i expect it's a license for the dealer / manufacturer to gouge me over the duration of my ownership. Can I get a Tesla or any other mainstream electric car serviced at any local garage? (And I dont care about the "there's less service" argument, what matters to me is choice.)
- dredmorbius 5y agoWhilst you're all but certainly correct regards SaaS and EVs, that's probably also a given for ICE vehicles going forward as well.
